About me
My main philosophical interests are phenomenology, Critical Theory, moral philosophy, and metaphilosophy. My present teaching is with the Open University. The materials provided by this site are listed, to the right, under ‘Contents’ . Also, there is a ‘news’ section below (and which I hope is not too self-promotional). Thanks for visiting.
My news (last amended October 2009)
- A review that I have written of Philosophy and Real Politics by Raymond Geuss will appear in Metaphilosophy sometime later this year or perhaps early next year.
- I am writing an article on metaphilosophy for the Internet Encylopedia of Philosophy, and a paper on the notion of reification.
- I have a paper - provisionally entitiled ‘Adorno on Determination (and Deformation)’ – under review by the journal Studies in Social and Political Thought.
- The Hitchhiker book has been declined by one publisher. It was declined for commercial reasons (namely, that such a book would not sell enough in the United States). That situation is particularly upsetting given that some especially silly ‘Philosophy and . .’ books have been commisioned. To see just how (how much more) philosophical Hitchhiker’s is, see this page. Still: another publisher is playing a longer game. . In the meantime, I am writing some columns for Mostly Harmless - the magazine of the official Hitchhiker’s appreciation society.
Something rather different
- Exposed: ugly face of BNP’s leaders (from BBC news).
